Today, I’m over at The Daily Basics writing my quarterly feature on handmade wallpaper. Did you know that wallpaper has its roots in Chinese scroll painting and that it was first intended for the European middle classes as a cheap alternative for decorating their homes? Of course the idea was then “stolen” and improved by the upper classes as “painted paper” and the rest is history. The top international sources for hand painted wallpaper today are Gracie in New York and de Gournay and Fromental in London. In the feature, I also suggest ways for using this more traditional of papers in a modern home. So put on your decorator hat and come with me to The Daily Basics … I promise it will be fascinating.
