The whimsical beauty of glass

Last March on my way to the #1 of all global Art Fairs, TEFAF Maastricht in The Netherlands, I stopped in the medieval city of Bruges in Belgium to take in the astounding local “Flemish Primitive” paintings of Hans Memling and Jan van Eyck.  In my wandering through the city, I also discovered the work of an incredibly interesting 21st century Belgian glass designer named Anna Torfs.
A brilliant contemporary artist using traditional techniques, Anna cuts through the glass like a skilled surgeon creating beautiful objects that capture, reflect and absorb light. She is a maestro at manipulating her medium and is one of those gifted geniuses who at a relatively young age has a trove of collectors from all over the world … and I wonder why?  Just look at my two favorite vessels, Bubbles and Armadillo.  So ravishingly chic!
