Stadler’s African gray

Normally, an “African gray” refers to a type of gray and white parrot.  Far from the annoying talking bird, this elegantly minimalist gray and white striated marble stool/table by Austrian designer Robert Stadler is much more agreeable.

Represented by the very “in” London-based Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Stadler designs pieces that are practical yet artistic and with a slight dose of humor.  In this case, he’s cut through the strongest part of the ever-so-slightly tapered table (its corners) to prove that even without them, his structure can actually still be perfectly poised. Whether next to Le Corbusier ‘s “Chaise Longue”, Hans Wegner’s “Papa Chair” or Antonio Citterio’s “Ray Sofa” for B&B Italia, this side table is the perfect companion to them all!
