recent design bound for the classics: the tk8 daybed by Kastholm

TK8 Daybed designed by Thomas Bo Kastholm
Thomas Bo Kastholm designed the TK8 in 2009 for Danish brand CarlHansen & Son.  It’s the teaming of a great duo.  Kastholm is a second generation Danish furniture maker, and Carl Hansen & Son was the firm who helped launch the career of Hans Wegner in 1949.

This daybed checks all the boxes for me: sleek and elegant; versatile – choices of woods, leathers, with cushion/without cushion, and in two different sizes – I can see this in an entry hall as a great bench to sort yourself out before going out, or at the end of a bed for books and other essentials.  A daybed also makes a great divider between a living and dining room – there is no back to visually break the space, and it provides additional seating to both rooms and is a great space for a quick catnap.  And isn’t one piece of furniture that can pull double duty always the best buy?

I’m constantly stumbling across new and interesting designs for daybeds.  I recently wrote about some of my favorites, but already I have to add another to my list of “must haves” for future projects: the TK8.
