1100 Architect is the New York and Frankfurt based architectural firm of creative minds David Piscuskas and Juergen Riehm. Celebrating 30 years of breathtaking modern architectural designs this year, this awesome duo has done work for institutional clients as diverse as the MOMA and the NY Department of Corrections and private commissions for the likes of Dorothy and Roy Lichtenstein and Susan and Francois de Menil.
And their success is likely due to their beautiful yet functional architecture that is also environmentally sustainable. Take for instance, this recently completed private beachfront house on Long Island, New York
One of my favorite aspects of this residence is the openness of the inside spaces. The sloped roof creates a double-height ceiling for the first floor and adds continuity with the second. Inside and outside glass walls and skylights allow the natural light to bathe the interior with life at all times plus allows for the sensational unobstructed views of the infinity pool, the dunes and the ocean beyond.
I also dig the dune landscape on the ramp portion of the green roof that takes its queue from the natural surroundings. How cool is having a boardwalk on the roof of your house!
Happy Anniversary David and Juergen. Can’t wait to see what you’ll do in the next 30!
