Last month during the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse in Manhattan, one of my favorite interiors was the one designed and put together by Neal Beckstedt, a young colleague in the business.

Focusing on modern masculine interiors, his rooms seemingly float in space with a minimum of tchotchkes.  He’s a “less is more” kind of guy and THAT’s right up my alley.

All the interiors seen here have essentially newly re-issued midcentury furniture which is arranged in wonderful layered vignettes for good harmonious conversation.  I particularly like the idea of the clustered white parchment Chinese boxes as a center table (image 2) and the hand-knotted North African Berber rugs (images 2 and 4), with their asymmetrical patterns show us that tightly tailored interiors don’t have to be boring.  These are devourable!  His purposeful use of high and low brow, metal and organic, antique and new, pattern and texture make for very effortless yet comfortable spaces.
