like moths attracted to light, these ingo maurer’s pendants are causing a stir

These two large light bulbs with butterflies and dragonflies aflutter were launched by the incomparable German lighting designer Ingo Maurer (b. 1932) and his very talented team in 2011.  They come in 2 sizes.  The larger, is about 30 cm (12 inch) in diameter and the smaller is about 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter.

And it isn’t just about gluing insects onto a light bulb!!!  Maurer and his team thought about everything, including the glare a halogen bulb emits and is therefore part of the reason for the soft white shade ring around the center.

Their whimsy is sublime and I would definitely drop some coin given the right project.  You can certainly imagine how well they would look in a mudroom, child’s room, over the stairs from the garage into a main floor, corner nook of a living room or even a bunch hanging at different heights in an entrance foyer.  Sensational!
