Design-Week for Kids (4/5)

Today is day four of our weeklong feature on design for kids.

With the way the economy is these days, it is perhaps a good idea to teach kids to save their pennies now to obtain a reward in the future and what a better way than to do this with a piggybank.  But this is not just ANY old piggybank.  Designed by Mexican-born, LA-based Sami Hayek (yes, Salma’s little brother and a very accomplished designer in his own right!), this savings bank is modeled in black Oaxacan clay and gets its saturated beautiful color from its curing process in Sami’s underground ovens.  The small openings around it allows one to visualize progress  … necessary for keeping it real for the escuincles.
