By now, my dedicated readers have a good grasp of my aesthetic, so today’s feature may throw a monkey’s wrench into what you thought was my “look”.
In scouting for industrial furniture for a loft, I came across Mexican-made, Belgian-designed home goods purveyor Casamidy, the brainchild of creative husband and wife team Jorge Almada and Anne-Marie Midy. What rocks about the Montelargo chaise and bench is the high-brow, low-brow thing it has going on. So design-wise, its clean and simple contemporary lines are reminiscent of pure Scandinavian design. But its manufacturing process is artisanal, with all the charming shortcomings of the hand-made.
In my opinion, this chaise or bench is leagues better than the traditional “industrial”, machine-made furniture so popular today. It has a human imprint that will forever make it, and the space it’s in, incomparably yours.
