The simple beauty of Hans Wegner’s Kastrup Chair

Also known as the CH401, I LOVE this chair because it brings some natural softness to a minimalist shape that could otherwise be too formal and dry. It is very easy to see this piece in any type of room … library, living, bedroom and hallway.  And the best thing is that it fits into most every decorating aesthetic as well!

Upholstered in leather or fabric, the chair is still made by the Hansen family with whom Wegner first collaborated in 1940.  Made in a beechwood frame and stainless-steel legs shaped as boomerangs, this chair is the distilled essence of what a chair ought to be: perfection in shape, proportion, comfort and size.

I still prefer to find a vintage piece when I can, but if the aim is to build a “look” and time is of the essence why not get one directly from the original source J!
