profile
For Richard Rabel, creating harmony between classical and contemporary interiors comes instinctually. From New York City flats to family homes in France, Portugal, and Brazil, Richard creates intimate and stylish spaces in unexpected ways that feel evolved, transportive and truly personal.
Richard’s artistic eye, background in engineering, architecture, and interior design along with ten years of invaluable experience at Christie’s as Senior Director infuses his international portfolio as an interior designer with standards of excellence, expertise in art, modern motifs, color schemes and spatial configurations.
With a toe grazing the past and a discerning eye looking to the future, Richard relies on the influences from a lifetime of exploration and sensibility while offering his clients classic contemporary design. His philosophy of “relaxed sophistication” — crafting spaces that are exceptional and livable, unexpected yet familiar, of-the-moment and timeless — is an ethos that drives his studio and is highly respected throughout the industry.
Richard Rabel Interiors + Art has been recognized by and featured in AD, Sotheby’s Magazine, Elle Decor, The Washington Post, and Forbes, amongst other publications. It was selected for New York Magazine’s Best of New York Design, as well as chosen to design a space for the Kips Bay NYC Designer Showhouse. In addition, the Studio is part of the elite group of interior design firms endorsed by Architectural Digest.
services
As an Architectural Digest recommended firm, Richard Rabel Interiors + Art offers residential design and decoration to well-heeled clients who long for a uniquely designed home and who would rather not baby-sit their project. This consists of developing the design, managing and delivering the completed space so that his clients can simply enjoy the final result rather than fuss with the minutiae and the headaches that come with projects of this type.
In addition, for clients interested in setting a foundation for a new art collection or for those building on an existing one, Richard Rabel uses his extensive background, knowledge of the art world, and enviable roster of international contacts to provide art advising services. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying buying opportunities worldwide, confirming authenticity and attribution, inspecting for condition, price justification and final negotiation.
